Surface Treatments for 6061 Aluminum Profiles
6061 aluminum alloy is a heat-treatable strengthened alloy. It features excellent formability, weldability and machinability with moderate strength, and retains favorable workability after annealing. Its main alloying elements are magnesium and silicon, which form Mg₂Si precipitates. Appropriate manganese and chromium can offset the adverse effects of iron. Small amounts of copper or zinc may be added to boost strength without obvious deterioration of corrosion resistance. Minor copper is used in conductive grades to counteract negative impacts of titanium and iron on electrical conductivity. Zirconium or titanium serves to refine grains and control recrystallization structure. Lead and bismuth can be added to improve machinability. The solid solution of Mg₂Si in aluminum enables artificial age hardening. Overall, 6061 aluminum delivers moderate strength, good corrosion resistance, reliable weldability and satisfactory anodizing performance.
Basic Knowledge and Process Flow of Aluminum Extrusion
The composition of aluminum alloys varies according to the types and contents of alloying elements added to aluminum. Aluminum ingots serve as raw materials for the aluminum extrusion process. The tool used to produce aluminum profiles with specific cross-sections is known as an aluminum extrusion die. Made of steel, the die contains one or multiple openings shaped to match the required profile.
Processing Process of Industrial Aluminum Profiles
Industrial aluminum profile is an aluminum-based alloy material. Aluminum rods are melted and extruded to produce aluminum materials with different cross-sectional shapes. With the rapid development of the industrial aluminum profile industry, processing demands continue to increase, while many people still have limited understanding of aluminum profile production. The following introduces the complete processing flow of industrial aluminum profiles.
